About Us: Septic Tank Pumping and Maintenance Service in Kansas City Since 1986
Honey-Wagon has always been a family owned and operated septic tank maintenance business since it was first started in 1986 by Mel and Karen, just 6 months after they got married. It continued to be a family business because as their family grew, family was added to the team, including their son who worked both on the truck and in the office, as well as their daughter, who has severe autism. She helped out especially with shredding, of which she was our "Chief Shredder".
Honey-Wagon started with one 1,000-gallon truck, which Mel manned. Karen was still working as a nurse during the daytime and did the company books in the evenings in their tiny apartment. Thankfully, their first job was for a nurse friend of Karen's because that day, Mel received his first lesson on the correct way to turn the pump to vacuum, not to blow the waste out... They say we learn best by experience (Especially if it's a smelly one!).
Gone are the days of learning how to run and operate Honey-Wagon, because after 30+ years, they're now experts in the field. They have grown enough to add seven employees and three trucks (4,200 gallons each & four times the size of our original truck). They are fully licensed, bonded and insured.
Honey-Wagon services Miami, Wyandotte and Johnson counties in Kansas as well as Jackson and Cass in Missouri.
Education
Education is one of the core values at Honey-Wagon.
To further our knowledge and keep up on the latest information and technology, we attend CEU classes and wastewater trade shows and classes every year. In addition to furthering our technicians' education, we also love to provide education to our customers about how their septic system works, how to best maintain it, how to spot problems, etc.
Having that knowledge empowers our customers to maintain their septic tanks and keep them in the best shape possible.
Giving Back
Honey-Wagon also believes in giving back by supporting several charities. Here are some of the charities to which they contribute food or financial donations:
Harvesters Community Food Network
Renewed Hope Food Pantry Overland Park
Adventist Development & Relief Agency
